At this year's San Diego Comic Con, the developers of Pokemon Go confirmed a number of topics including upcoming features of trading, new Pokemon, and Pokecenters. However, it was their talk of Pokemon Go Easter eggs that really got the crowd talking, stating that there are some in the game yet to be found by users. For those of you that don't know what an Easter egg is, it is an unexpected feature discovered in a game, show, or movie. Think of them as a sort of "wink", nod", or even bonus to the person playing or watching. There have been a ton of rumored Pokemon Go Easter eggs, but before we look at them let's take a look at the ones that have ben confirmed.

Confirmed Pokemon Go Easter Eggs

1. The Eevee Evolutions

In the original Pokemon animated series, there were a group of brothers called "The Eevee Brothers." This guyes each had their own evolved version of Eevee that reflected their names.

  • Rainer = Vaporeon
  • Pyro = Flareon
  • Sparky = Jolteon

It turns out that simply renaming one of your Eevees to any one of the brothers names can actually force whichever evolution you want. For more information on this Pokemon Go Easter egg, check out our post on the many evolutions of Eevee. https://pokemon-world.com/pokemon-go-eevee-evolutions/

2. Begin With Pikachu

For anyone who hasn't begun their Pokemon Go quest, you can actually begin the game with Pikachu instead of the usual started. This Pokemon Go Easter eggs may even be a call back to the Pokemon animated series. In the cartoon, Ash Ketchum oversleeps and runs late on his first day of being a Pokemon trainer. When it comes time to choose a Pokemon, he's out of luck. Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur are all gone taken. The only Pokemon left for Ash is a Pikachu, who at the time has absolutely no control over his electric shock. Unconfirmed or Rumored Pokemon Go Easter Eggs

Since Niantic confirmed that there were more Pokemon Go Easter eggs out there, players from the across the globe have been searching hight and low for them. From opening the menu in different ways to even analyzing the sound files of the game, everything is deemed a possibility. Below, are some of more popular Pokemon Go Easter egg theories and ideas.

1. Ditto and the Colored Menu

Ok, let's start with the basics here. We know that Ditto is available in the game but essentially impossible to get as no has one yet. Players have also discovered that hold down the main menu button and slide your finger across the different options (shop, items, Pokemon, and Pokedex), the colors change. Interestingly enough, Niantic's Ingress (the developer's previous release), also featured this with one major twist. By using a certain code combination, much like the Contra or Konami Code, players could "hack" the game and unlock new features. Those on Reddit have come up with many theories that a similar main menu code in Pokemon Go could unlock the mysterious Ditto. So far many have tried with no such luck. However, that shouldn't stop you from trying to find everyone's favorite purple Pokemon.

2. Ditto is Disguised This Pokemon Go Easter egg theory connects with the above idea. If you don't know Ditto, it's important to at least know what they can do and that's mimic other Pokemon. Think of them as the Mystiques of Pokemon. "Ditto rearranges its cell structure to transform itself into other shapes. However, if it tries to transform itself into something by relying on its memory, this Pokémon manages to get details wrong." Now, many online have figured that Ditto may be in the game already, just disguised as another Pokemon. So how would we get them to appear as their normal selves? Well, in Pokemon Snap, Dittos were disguised as Bulbasaurs. In order to get Ditto to appear the player would need to throw a pester ball at them. If you've never played Pokemon Snap, allow me to explain. A pester ball is a type of poke ball that would subdue or knock out a Pokemon for capture or a picture. Therefore, many have concluded that thee is a way to get Peste balls in Pokemon Go. Coincidentally the color a pester ball is very similar to the hidden colors of the main menu (mentioned in the above theory). If Ditto really is disguised as another Pokemon, keep your eye out for them. Remember, Ditto can transform their body, but their face remains the same.3. Team RocketAs we all know, there are three teams in Pokemon Go: Mystic, Valor, and Instinct. As any fan of the original show knows, there's another team out there, and that's Team Rocket. Team Rocket was the series' villains who sought to capture rare Pokemon by any means. The team was made up of Jesse, James, and their taking Meowth. They were also accompanied by their two main Pokemon of Ekans & Koffing. Players of Pokemon Go theorized that there is a way to join Team Rocket instead of the three designated teams. One theory out has said not to join a team at level 5 and wait to see if Team Rocket becomes available. As an either included or coincidental Pokemon Go Easter egg, one Pokemon trainer from Reddit found themselves literally in the middle of Team Rocket in the picture below.
