A potion in Pokemon Go is an item that is used to restore your Pokemon’s Health Points (HP) after battling in the gyms. Potions may partly heal the HP or help the Pokemon's HP fully. The effectiveness of the healing is primarily determined by the type of portion you use. It is important to note that every time a Pokemon battles in a gym, there is a probability of defeat and by extension, a loss of HP. When your Pokemon is weakened, you have to heal it before it can resume fighting. Unlike other items in Pokemon Go such as eggs, potions are obtained for free.
Different Types of potions in Pokemon Go
There are four different types of Pokemon, all with varying healing powers as outlined below:
- Potion – This can be used to help restore up to 25% HP of an injured Pokemon.
- Super potion – This can help restore up to 50% HP of an injured Pokemon.
- Hyper potion – This will help you restore 75% HP of an injured Pokemon.
- Max potion – This will help fully restore HP of an injured Pokemon.
Where Can I Get potions?
Just like most items in Pokemon Go, you can pick your potion up by visiting a PokeStop. Each type of potion is unlocked at a different level. You will start finding potions after getting to level five. You will start accessing super potions after getting to level 10 of the game. Super potions can also be handed to you as a reward for getting to level 10. After acquiring the potions, you can decide which Pokemon to restore at the gym battles. To collect potions from Pokestops, just tap on them when they pop up. To use them, go to the item menu and tap on a potion. This will then give you a separate menu showing all the Pokemon that has sustained injuries and the percentage of HP lost. Tap on the Pokemon that you would like to restore HP. Of course, the portion of HP that you can restore with each potion will depend on the level that you are playing. It is essential to take note that for you to restore HP in Pokemon at a higher level, you may have to use more than one potion.
