Just like in previous versions of the Nintendo franchise, the main goal of Pokemon Go is to catch Pokemon. This time, however, Pokemon are not caught by defeating other Pokemon in battle. Instead, you have to walk around outside and search for them quite literally. Once one is within range, a ring will appear around it. You can then catch the Pokemon by flicking your Poke ball directly towards it. The color of the ring indicates how difficult the catch will be. The colors include; green, yellow, orange and red. Green means the catch will be simple and the difficulty increases in that order with a red meaning you’re in for one hell of a fight.
1. Throw Curve Balls
Usually, it takes quite a number of throws to capture a strong Pokemon successfully. However, throwing a curve ball slightly improves your odds of getting the Pokemon to stay in the Poke ball thereby reducing the number of attempts you will have to make. Furthermore, you also get good rewards and bonuses if you land a really good hit. Throwing a curve ball is not hard although it does require a bit of practice to get the hang of it. Once the Pokemon is within range, tap and hold the poke ball then keep spinning it one direction with your finger. When the ball begins to sparkle and vibrate, you can make the throw but make sure to get your timing right.
2. Perfect Your Aim
Accuracy is key to catching a strong and stubborn Pokemon. You need to be really still when you want to throw a Poke ball. Squatting can help stabilize your body so that it will be easier to keep the camera centered on the Pokemon. Strong Pokemon tend to run away quickly even when they stray out of your view for split second. The size of the circle around the target keeps shrinking over and over again. For strong Pokemon, you need to throw your Poke ball when this circle is at its smallest to maximize the chances of capturing it. Doing so will also earn you throw bonuses among other rewards.
3. Use Razz Berries
Catching strong Pokemon requires a bit of patience and a cool head. Once you encounter a strong one like Aerodactyl, you need to lower his guard before doing anything else. Feed it razz berries first to make it like you and bring it a false sense of security. The razz berries have a cumulative effect so the more you feed it the better. Strong Pokemon will be easier to catch after a few razz berries because they won't keep running away or escaping from Poke balls when captured. Razz berries are available at Poke stops once you reach level eight.
4. Use Superior Balls
A good aim might not be enough to catch a Pokemon if you don't have a superior ball to match. Poke balls include: great, ultra and master balls with the latter being the most powerful. Using any of these balls instead of the standard one to capture a Pokemon will greatly increase your chances of success. You need to level up to thirteen or higher to unlock superior Poke balls and receive a reward of twenty great balls. It is, therefore, important that you level up as fast as possible. Strong Pokemon will require multiple attempts to capture them because they keep breaking out of the balls. The attempts will be much fewer if you use superior balls.
