Your Pokeballs curve in Pokemon Go because you're doing the curveball throw! There are two different methods to throwing a Poke ball: you can either throw it straight at the Pokemon or spin the Pokeball to curve the ball. If your Poke balls keep flinging off to the side nowhere near where you're aiming, then you might be accidentally throwing a Pokemon Go curveball. A straight or regular throw will help you target and catch the Pokemon in Pokemon Go, but you're missing out on some extra XP points. This throw is a lot more accurate and precise due to the minimal movement that occurs after the pokeball has been thrown. A curve throw will make the throw harder, but you will gain an extra 10 XP for catching a Pokemon using this method. The curve ball may also increase your odds at capturing the Pokemon. This throw is definitely a lot harder than just throwing it straight but once you get the hang of it, it's well worth the XP bonus. It might be an easy way to boost up your trainer level, if slowly!

How Can I Do a Curve Ball in Pokemon Go?

You can perform a curve ball Pokemon Go throw in two ways:

1. Spin the pokeball: You can perform a curveball by first pressing and holding down on to your Pokeball. Then spin the Pokeball in a small circle on the screen (clockwise or counter-clockwise) until its starts spinning and sparkling. Finally, flick the Pokeball slightly towards the right or left of the Pokemon for it to curve into the Pokemon. You should aim the opposite direction from which you circled - flick the pokeball to the left if you were spinning clockwise, or to the right if you were spinning counter-clockwise. 2. Drag the pokeball in a semicircle: You can perform a curveball by rotating your finger in a circular motion while throwing. Be sure to come back to center before throwing the Pokemon so that you can capture it! This curveball method is a lot harder than the spinning method.

\Niantic Labs claims that the first method of throwing a Pokemon Go curve ball is the only one, but the second works as well. However you can simply flick the ball in a curved motion to create a curveball as mentioned above. You will get the curve ball bonus even if the ball isn't sparkling.*
