About Pokemon Go
Pokemon Go, the new mobile game from Nintendo has taken the world by storm, and the figures are mindboggling! In its first week of release, more than 7.5 million gaming enthusiasts have downloaded Pokemon Go. And, if the trend continues, it is highly likely that the game might overtake Twitter as far daily active users goes.
That begs the question, what is Pokemon Go anyway?
To have a better understanding of what Pokemon Go is all about, we have to go back into the 90s when Satoshi Tajiri started toying with the idea of Pokemon. The concept encompassed his childhood hobby of collecting insects and enthusiasm for video games. Tajiri wanted to develop a game that will allow children living in urban areas to “catch” insects from their homes, primarily because there are no places to catch insects any more thanks to urbanization.
Years later, Nintendo has built on Tajiri’s initial idea to create a mobile game that allows users to not only catch Pokemon (an American contraction of “Pocket Monsters) but also to battle at Gyms and evolve creatures. In plain English, Pokemon Go is designed to use your phone’s GPS to detect your position in the game and make Pokemon “appear” so you can go and catch them.
Pokemon Go is compatible with all mobile devices running on Android and iPhone operating systems.
