Leveling up faster is all about gaining experience. The more ways you gain experience, the better. The great thing about Pokemon Go is that acquiring experience isn’t as difficult as you might think. With a little effort, you can enjoy thousands of experience points in less than 30 minutes.
There are simple ways to gain experience and more complicated ways. The complicated ways, though they take that much longer, result in considerably more experience points. Investing your time in Pidgey farming, for example, might be the way to go.
Here, we take you through four different ways to gain easy experience and level up faster. These include participating in gym battles, Pidgey farming, using a lucky egg, and exploiting the advantages of Pokestops. Below, we go through each of these methods in turn.
1. Pump Up At The Gym
By far the most widespread way to level up faster is to participate in gym battles. Finding a Pokemon gym isn’t as easy as finding a Pokestop but, with enough navigation, you’re bound to encounter a gym at some point.
There are two ways to gain experience, depending on the type of gym you attend. There are friendly gyms, and there are hostile gyms. Friendly gyms are those that belong to your designated team and are a great way to accrue experience without fighting tough Pokemon.
The same is true for hostile gyms, the only difference being that the Pokemon you battle are likely to be significantly stronger. You need to be better prepared for these gyms but, with enough time and experience, you can reduce the reputation of the gym or even take it over.
For every Pokemon you defeat, you will gain experience. Luckily, you’re allowed to view the Pokemon in rival gyms, meaning you can make an informed decision as to whether you have the ability to take them on. Be sure to check whether you have enough combat points and whether you have the right Pokemon type. Without these, you are likely to struggle against hostile gyms.
2. Get Your Old MacDonald on With Some Pidgey Farming
Pidgey farming has become one of the most popular ways to level up faster. Using this technique, you can gain thousands of experience points in a matter of minutes. First, though, trainers need to do the prep work.
First things first, you need to catch some Pidgey, a lot of Pidgey! You’ll also need to possess a lucky egg, an item that you receive when you reach level 9. This item allows you to double experience points from any source; an ideal way to maximize experience gain.
So you’ve got your Pidgey, and you’ve received a lucky egg. Now, what? You’ll also need Pidgey candy, something which is necessary to evolve Pidgey into its higher form. You only need 12 candy for each Pidgey evolution. Try to collect enough candy for 12-15 Pidgey evolutions.
All you need to do is activate the lucky egg and evolve all the Pidgey. In just a matter of minutes, you’ll collect thousands of experience points.
It’s worth mentioning that this technique is not exclusive to Pidgey. It has also been used with other common Pokemon such as Weedle and Caterpies. However, Pidgey has become the most popular option not least because it’s remarkably easy to catch.

3. Crack the Lucky Egg
The lucky egg is an essential item to maximize experience gain. The lucky egg can only be acquired once you reach level 9. After this point, you’ll receive a lucky egg when you reach levels 10, 15, 20, and 25.
You can always purchase a lucky egg from the shop, too – though you’ll be parting with real-life cash as opposed to PokeCoins.
So what does the lucky egg actually do?
The lucky egg is all about the experience. It doubles the experience you gain, no matter what the source of that experience. Catching a Drowsee, for example, can attain 100 experience points but with a lucky egg, this doubles to 200 experience points.
As lucky eggs are quite rare, trainers are advised only to use the egg at strategic points. You can use it for Pidgey farming (as described above) or you can use it around Pokestops where Pokemon naturally congregate.
If you’re looking to maximize the experience, players should only evolve weaker Pokemon. Evolving more advanced Pokemon uses more candy, meaning you won’t acquire as much experience than if you spent that candy on weaker Pokemon (which require less candy).
4. Keep Close to Lures and Pokestops
Pokestops are a great way to level up faster. You’re more likely to encounter a Pokestop than a gym, and you also don’t need to participate in any difficult battles. Pokemon are more likely to be found near a Pokestop, and a lure can help augment this frequency.
A lure is used, as the name might suggest, to lure Pokemon to a given location. This location is a Pokestop, though you can control which Pokestop is selected. Once activated, all Pokemon players – and not just you – can benefit from the effects of the lure.
The lure attracts many more Pokemon to that particular Pokestop. You’ll notice pink leaves circulating the Pokestop, a sign that a lure has been activated. Go to the Pokestop as soon as possible, as a lure only lasts for up to 30 minutes.
The more Pokemon you catch; the more experience you gain. So catching more and more Pokemon, courtesy of the lure is a great way to level up faster. And, given the frequency of Pokestops, it’s a tried and tested and easy method to acquire quick experience.
